What To Do If Your Child Is Being Bullied

My guest blog this week comes from a writer from guidetohealthcareschools.com.  The subject is something we have all come to know more about....bullying.  Most recently, there have been numerous stories in the press about kids who have committed suicide due (reportedly) to being tormented by their peers.  Knowing the warning signs and understanding what resources exist could honestly be life saving!  Take some time and read the post and pass it along to anyone and EVERYONE you think could benefit from it.

A Comprehensive Guide to Bullying

Published in http://www.guidetohealthcareschools.com/ and Submitted to the Parenting Pundit by Guest Writer

Jane has many friends, but they all pick on her hand-me-down clothes. In the naval academy, all new recruits are forced to streak around campus. Wendy always wears sweatpants so male coworkers will stop whistling and making comments on her legs. Kerry avoids his computer and cell phone because of the threats he receives daily in emails and text messages. Dillon gets hit regularly for having special needs. Minor to major, these are all forms of bullying. Once thought of as a, "rite of passage" bullying is now seen as an international problem, spanning all stages of life from childhood to adulthood, in school, on the street, in the workplace, even on the Internet.

Now schools, businesses and state and federal government have taken action and put energy into developing new prevention techniques, education programs and legislation. The following is a collection of statistics, definitions, quick facts and resources for identification, information on and treatment of problems associated with bullying.

Celebrating Life...Regardless of Age

Happy Birthday Shaftora

This week marked a milestone for me...my birthday!!!  Yup'.... June 30th is the day that I was born nearly 4 decades ago:)  What made this birthday most special is that I was able to share my unique birthday ritual with my kids for the first time.

See..each year I buy myself a present on the day of my birthday.  I don't buy jewelry, or electronics, or even a cute black dress.  Instead, I buy myself a pair of shoes.  Yes....shoes!  Now, if you know me well you know that I am a shoe-a-holic/ foot-fashionista!  I am obsessed really love shoes.  But, the reason why I symbolically purchase a new pair each June 30th is deeper than my...eh hem...addiction passion.

Here's the back story...

Make A Wish Mommy!
For as long as I can remember, I was turned off by friends who whined and groaned as their birthday approached because they felt it only meant that they were older.  We all know people like this!  I've always looked at aging differently.  To me, birthdays should be joyous events for EVERYONE because it means that you were given a year of life.  Not everyone makes it to see their next birthday...so why wouldn't you celebrate!?!  Duh!!!!!

So...back to the shoe thing:)  I am truly thankful for the fact that I have been able to strut around this green earth wearing my heels and a smile.  So...I buy a pair of shoes that match my personality with the expectation that I will be able to continue to sashay along my journey called life for at least another year....never knowing what joys I will encounter along the way.

"Birthday Shoe 2010"
I normally go to the store by myself to select my birthday shoe.  However, this year I brought along my munchkins.  The three of us scoured the store until we came across the right pair.  It had all the requirements...mile high heel, and a spunky quality to match mine:)  So I guess this year I'll be strutting in Guess footwear (lol)!!!

So happy to have been able to share this with my babes!!!
