Celebrating Life...Regardless of Age

Happy Birthday Shaftora

This week marked a milestone for me...my birthday!!!  Yup'.... June 30th is the day that I was born nearly 4 decades ago:)  What made this birthday most special is that I was able to share my unique birthday ritual with my kids for the first time.

See..each year I buy myself a present on the day of my birthday.  I don't buy jewelry, or electronics, or even a cute black dress.  Instead, I buy myself a pair of shoes.  Yes....shoes!  Now, if you know me well you know that I am a shoe-a-holic/ foot-fashionista!  I am obsessed really love shoes.  But, the reason why I symbolically purchase a new pair each June 30th is deeper than my...eh hem...addiction passion.

Here's the back story...

Make A Wish Mommy!
For as long as I can remember, I was turned off by friends who whined and groaned as their birthday approached because they felt it only meant that they were older.  We all know people like this!  I've always looked at aging differently.  To me, birthdays should be joyous events for EVERYONE because it means that you were given a year of life.  Not everyone makes it to see their next birthday...so why wouldn't you celebrate!?!  Duh!!!!!

So...back to the shoe thing:)  I am truly thankful for the fact that I have been able to strut around this green earth wearing my heels and a smile.  So...I buy a pair of shoes that match my personality with the expectation that I will be able to continue to sashay along my journey called life for at least another year....never knowing what joys I will encounter along the way.

"Birthday Shoe 2010"
I normally go to the store by myself to select my birthday shoe.  However, this year I brought along my munchkins.  The three of us scoured the store until we came across the right pair.  It had all the requirements...mile high heel, and a spunky quality to match mine:)  So I guess this year I'll be strutting in Guess footwear (lol)!!!

So happy to have been able to share this with my babes!!!

  1. you and your heels are my favorite memory of you (I've told that HS graduation story a hundred times - your heels made me the shortest person in class instead of the second shortest! :-) Happy Birthday! You deserve all these happy days.

  2. Alysia...For once I wasn't the shortest:)!!! I've been trying to fool people for a few decades now that I'm taller than I look. But the truth is...I'm not fooling anyone (lol)!!!
