Mentors make a difference everyday in the life of an at-risk youth.. I am grateful for all our mentors and the work they do with our at-risk youths.

The term "at-risk" is generally used to describe youth who come from single-parent homes, who show signs of emotional or behavioral problems, and who lack the support to navigate developmental tasks successfully.

Hi the mama! I am right there with you about the need for shows about missing people, and the real issues that families and communities face. I am tired of Snooki, the Kardashians, The Bachelor, Teen Mom....and any other reality tv nonsense being forced down our throats. I honestly believe that we will someday soon have more than one or two shows to share our stories.

I am terribly sorry to hear about Judy. I think she deserves better as well! It should not be this hard for loved ones like you to have an opportunity to share your story. I believe the networks can and should do better!

Hi Maureen! Thanks for reading my rant:) I could not agree with you more...it is a major slap in the face to thousands of loved ones who long to see their missing family member. Though we see the issue through slightly different lenses, we both agree that it is a compound problem. It will definitely take all of us to make a much needed change:) Hopefully next time ABC (or any other news source for that matter) will think twice before publishing such an insensitive article.

It is astounding - and overwhelming - how many people are missing in our country. And that our attention spans seem so sharply focused on 5 minutes that we can't see anything past 5 minutes. Maybe the internet is to blame. Maybe it's TV. Maybe it's the media. Maybe people DO want to read stories about the missing (Discovery Channel and 48 hours have been running stories) -- maybe it's that the media doesn't SEE that people want to see more? I don't particularly care for Nancy Grace's style -- but by God she had the testicular fortitude to hang it out there and do missing cases every night for (I can't remember the number) several weeks. That's what we need MORE of. Come on networks! I'm sick of regular TV I can't watch it anymore! How about a missing network? Profile a new case each episode?

My sister has been missing for over 30 years. I wasn't really ready to look until 9 years ago. September 11th kicked my butt into high gear. It's a long, sordid, mysterious, yet everyday NYC story. But I haven't been able to get any air time for her. It's intriguing. My search has consumed me whenever I'm focused on it.

People ask, "how can I help" -- you can urge your local authorities to use NAMUS and to learn more about missing persons. "not my little town" is an attitude that keeps the sands of time blowing - and the tracks of crimes are covered like the waves of sand in the desert.

Awareness - of the problem - of the steps we can all take - and what to look for to teach the next generation how to avoid these terrible things from happening to them. and to have at hand the information they need - in the event that it does.

My sister was a prostitute. Does that mean she's a throwaway and I should just go away? She was also a daughter, a sister, and she's an aunt. I think she deserves better.

Well you pretty much know my thoughts on this one. I wrote almost the same words but as you know I don't think it's racial preference that determines who gets media awareness and who doesn't. It depends on if media is having a slow news day, it depends if law enforcement gives their permission for media to run the story....many, many will not give permission and some news outlets won't run a missing person case unless they have permission. I told one anchor person off for that .... I told him that's bad journalism in my books. But mostly it depends on the families to keep their missing loved one in the spotlight. Many families just do not possess the skills to do this or they are very afraid of doing something wrong that would jeopardize the investigation so they do nothing.

And, it is adult males of all colors whose cases are the most ignored by media and by law enforcement.

But to rank cases according to how intriguing they are is asinine to say the least. What a horrible, horrible slap in the face to the over 100,000 families with missing loved ones of all ages, colors, socioeconomic status, etc. Slap in the face .... many, many families were hurt by this list.

It's got to be a difficult place for the family to be in because the world is looking at them and their son and trying to find the causal factor for why he turned into a murderer. But just as they are distancing themselves, so too are others. Nobody wants to take ownership of this horrible situation. ~g~

Excellent points G. I do however, have a great deal more respect for the parents that has the courage to stand up and recognize that their adult offspring acted in an obscene way. It sure beats a parent that says nothing or worse, tries to defend their monster's behavior/actions.
Unfortunately, nothing they say will undo the damage that has been done, but it does show at least a glimpse of respect for the victims, which is more than I can say for the Sarah Palins and Glen Becks of the world who refuse to acknowledge any role that they MAY have played in stoking the flames that ultimately led to this tragedy.

Gaetane, I saw this episode too. and i agree with everything you stated. Although these young ladies are of legal age in real life, the fact that they portray teens on TV I think is what makes this a big deal. Long story short, I am on Team Sherri. It's just inappropriate for them to be "spread eagle" and half naked. I mean that may as well be on the cover of Playboy of Hustler or something. Surely they could have done more tasteful pics to make a buck.

@Anonymous....One thing that I definitely agree with you on is the fact that we have to be wiser about the people that we let into our lives. Whether it's a "spiritual advisor" or "friend"... Not everyone we meet has good intentions. Greed and jealousy are, afterall, the pitfall of humanity (in my most humble opinion;) I think that Bishop does deserve his day in court to either clear his name, or to be convicted. Either way it goes....this "situation" has hopefully been an eye opener for those who put their faith in man instead of the highest power. There is an even bigger issue here aside from the sex abuse allegations and that, in my humble opinion, is the abuse of trust that far too many of these "Mega Pastors" engage in.
Whether its Creflo openly wishing that he could shoot those who don't tithe big enough with "uzi's on the count of 3 Jesuses" and "take there bodies to the side door and throw them into a big hole in the ground" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM3BWAmlXis)or or, if it's Dr. Leroy Brown bragging about his $16,000 dog and his Rolls and his daughters Mercedes, or Juanita Bynum telling you that you are a commoner if you don't invest in an expensive pen like her $5,000 pen.
These pastors are raping and abusing their flocks in many ways other than sexually.
They are seizing upon your spirituality by the force of our interpretation of their position. They will have you believe that you will fall out of favor with The Creator if you do not give them what they want.
Isn't that how molesters coerce youngsters to do what they want? If you don't do this, I'll kill your mommy. If you tell on me I'll......
These Mega Pastors look more like rap stars with their Bling and their Bentley's, than they do like Jesus or his disciples.
Where is their humility? Where is there satisfaction with just doing God's work?
Could you imagine what would happen if Eddie Long and his congregation of 20K+ decided that they were going to put a halt to the drug dealing and prostitution in our community by having the whole flock show up in the worst neighborhoods on surprise and making it known that the poison peddlers are no longer welcomed?!
But that's not what they are about. They identify with the guy or gal that's just trying to get their's because that's what these mega pastor's are all about. Getting Their's (in my opinion).
Eddie Long is only the tip of the iceberg. He got this way because he is accountable to no one. His millions/year in 'love offerings', his Church provided Bentley and G4, etc... all tell him that he is doing what his flock wants him to do.
I pray that all of the Mega Flocks wake up and smell the coffee before their fate is sealed and they find themselves in a far worse situation that having been physically molested, but instead having been spiritually raped.
